Pretoria, also known as Tshwane, is the administrative capital of South Africa. The seat of Government, the  gracious Union Buildings with its magnificent surrounding gardens is a symbol of the city, as is the glorious blue canopy that covers much of the city in summer when the jacaranda trees are in blossom.

Pretoria is a big, bustling commercial city that is known, inter alia,  for its rich culture, fine educational institutions, superb sports facilities, and world class zoological gardens. Pretoria is situated in a transtional area between the high altitude Higveld and the wildlife-rich bushveld to the north. It is approximately 45km north of Johannesburg, although the Gauteng urban sprawl is closing the gap between the two.
